Abstract

Nematode infestation on crops has been a major concern to most of the farmers. Nematode multiplies very fast thereby causing high economic loss to vegetables. There are notable symptoms of this infestation of which root gall index is the only proved to be a noticeable symptom. Cultural, biological control, soil amendment tactic, botanical pesticides, synthetic nematicides and integrated management practice are widely reported. Most of the poor resource farmers are confused on the best management practices to be adapted but use of botanical nematicides and organic soil amendment methods have been exploited most. Negative environmental effects and high cost of purchase of synthetic chemicals have been identified as the major limitations. Therefore, soil amendment and botanical pesticides approach can best be described as the most convenient tactics in the control of nematode attack especially in the organic farming system.
