The HIV/AIDS epidemic continues to challenge global health, with Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly Nigeria, experiencing high infection rates. This study investigates the impact of herbal remedies on viral suppression among HIV-positive individuals in Southern Nigeria, where traditional medicine is prevalent. The research examines the cultural, social, and pharmacological dimensions of these treatments to assess their effectiveness and interactions with antiretroviral therapy (ART). Data from 100 participants across five states were analyzed, revealing that while herbal remedies are widely used, their efficacy in viral suppression is limited compared to ART. Participants using both ART and herbal remedies experienced better health outcomes than those relying solely on herbal treatments. The study underscores the importance of integrating traditional and modern healthcare systems to improve health outcomes for those living with HIV/AIDS in the region. Public health policies should focus on educating communities about the benefits of ART while respecting cultural practices, ensuring that healthcare interventions are culturally sensitive and effective. Further research is needed to scientifically validate the efficacy and safety of herbal remedies in the context of HIV/AIDS management.
