Abstract

This paper examined the pivotal role of reforming the social studies curriculum in Nigeria as a means to foster national integration and drive economic transformation. Given Nigeria's diverse ethnic, cultural, and religious landscape, national unity and economic development remain critical challenges. A reformed social studies curriculum can address these challenges by promoting cultural awareness, civic education, and conflict resolution skills, thereby fostering a sense of unity and active citizenship. Furthermore, integrating entrepreneurship education, financial literacy, global competence, and critical thinking into the curriculum can equip students with the skills needed for the dynamic global economy. The paper outlines key implementation strategies, including stakeholder engagement, teacher training, and continuous monitoring and evaluation, to ensure the successful reform of the social studies curriculum. By harnessing the power of education, Nigeria can achieve its goals of national cohesion and economic prosperity.
