Abstract

The study examines Classroom Management and Student Performance in Secondary Schools in the 3 Senatorial Districts of Bauchi State, Nigeria. The objective of the study was to assess: the impact of classroom discipline on students’ performance and impact of classroom communication on students’ performance in secondary schools in Bauchi, Nigeria; two null hypotheses were formulated. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The target population of the study was 3468 respondents; a proportionate random sampling technique was used to select 346 samples of respondents for the study. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from the respondents. The (5) Likert scale opinions was used which include (SA, A, U, SD, and D). the data collected were analysed using frequencies and percentages and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 alpha levels of significance. The questionnaire consists of twenty (20) items. The major finding reveals that: classroom discipline such as control of noise making, rudeness, disobedience, truancy were reliable tools for improving student performance n most secondary schools in Bauchi State and classroom communication during instruction are potent means through which effective teaching and learning takes place in the classroom, which improves students’ performance in most secondary schools in Bauchi State. It was recommended that; principals, class teachers and school inspector should ensure the sustainability of classroom discipline through rules and regulations that are simple and easy to obey, such as raising hand to speak during instruction, proper sitting arrangement and that school administrators and classroom teachers should ensure the best means of communication with their students because, without effective channel of communication learning will not take place.
