EFFECT OF COVID19 PANDEMIC ON THE PERFORMANCE OF SELECTED PUBLIC TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN ADAMAWA STATE, NIGERIA

This study examined the effect of COVID19 Pandemic on the Performance of selected public tertiary institutions in Adamawa State, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design in the form of cross-sectional study. The data was collected through a questionnaire administered to 367 respondents out of which 326 were returned successfully. Data collected were subjected to percentage analysis, and hypotheses were tested using regression analysis at 0.05 level of significance. According to the findings, transition to e-teaching/learning during the pandemic significantly affected institutional performance (β = 0.288, T = 7.461, P = 0.000). The analysis showed that disrupt academic calendar due to COVID-19 had a significant effect on institutional performance (β = 1.070, T = 9.056, P = 0.000). Hence, the study concludes that COVID 19 Pandemic has significant effect on performance of public tertiary institutions in some tertiary institution in Adamawa state, Nigeria. The study recommended that institutions need to develop and implement digital literacy initiatives for students and staff, integrate online and face-to-face instruction, and enhance IT support services to assist e-teaching/learning integration. Public institutions need to develop flexible academic calendars, set up remote learning protocols, and develop other forms of communication between the dislocated learners and the institution to keep the pupils busy during disrupt academic calendar.
