NON-FINANCIAL MOTIVATION AND EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE

This study examined non-financial motivation and employee performance in Imo State Ministry of Health (2012-2022). Four research objectives, four research questions and four research hypotheses guided the study. The work is anchored on motivation and non-financial motivation. Survey research design was employed. The population of the study is made up of the entire 755 permanent staff of Imo State Ministry of Health. Taro Yamane sampling formular was used and a sample size of 262 was gotten. Out of 262 copies of the questionnaire distributed, only 238 copies were returned and used. The data were therefore analyzed using simple percentage and the hypotheses were tested using chi-square. It was discovered that staff training/ development, office space and furniture, employee recognition and team work (as non-financial motivational indices) have positive and significant impact on employee performance. The study concludes that the achievement of employee performance in public organization (like Imo State Ministry of Health) depends on the extent of non-financial incentives. The study recommends for improved work environment, regular staff training/development, employee recognition/ commendation and effective use of team work in Imo State Ministry of Health so as to achieve high level of performance of workers.
