Abstract

This study focused on women and corporate leadership using First Bank Owerri, Imo State as the focal point. Three research objectives, three research questions and three research hypotheses guided the study. Gender theory was adopted as the framework of analysis. The researchers employed survey research design and questionnaire was used to collect data. The data collected in this study were analyzed using simple percentage, mean statistics, and Pearson product moment correlation coefficient, through the aid of SPSS version 21.0. The findings revealed that educational barrier affects women in corporate leadership; there is significant relationship between institutional barriers and women in corporate leadership; and there is significant impact of socio-cultural barriers on women in corporate leadership. The study concludes that effective women leadership in corporate business depends on the extent of institutional, educational, and cultural advantages. It was recommended that women in corporate organizations and others business should try as much as possible to attain the highest level of education required in their endeavour. Furthermore, the ministry of women affairs, the law court, and the legislatures should make and implement policies to encourage women empowerment, especially those in leadership of corporate firms.
