PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS OF INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS LIVING IN ZAMFARA NORTH

The research work highlight the psychosocial problems of the internally displaced persons in Zamfara. Banditry and kidnapping continues to gain ground and heightened the security situation in northern part of Nigeria, whilst threatening to engulf the nation in a perpetual state of conflict. which have been embroiled in activities of kidnapping, killings and attacks on villages forcing people to flee, thereby creating homelessness, loss of jobs and increasing risks of mental problems. Approval letter was obtained from research and ethics committee of Zamfara State Ministry of Health, social support and trauma theories and adopts a quantitative approach that relies on the use of data sourced from respondents to the study, peer-reviewed journal articles, government briefs, international organization reports, and the Internet were the source of the literature used. Descriptive statistics was used in data analysis. The findings study reveals that, of the total number of the respondents, 280 representing 9.7% are children while adults stood at 190 respondents representing 6.6% to indicate all age group can be affected by the psychosocial problems. Of the total number of the respondents, 2175 representing 75% are male. Also, the study revealed significant relationship between internal displacement of persons and the development of psychosocial problems among internally displaced persons in Zamfara North with P-Value of 0.549. Finally, the result also showed a significant relationship between internal displacement of persons and implementation of effective strategies to address the problems identified. In conclusion, the findings from the study revealed that, internally displaced persons are facing plethora of psychosocial problems emanating from fear and hopelessness.
