EMBRACING ISLAMIC STUDIES MODEL TO ADDRESS THE CHALLENGES OF CHILD ABUSES AND ITS IMPACT ON THE STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL IN GOMBE NORTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT

Children are gifts from God to parents. As a gift from God, parents should be able to take care of and raise their children with love and affection. Child abuse Child abuse refers to any emotional, sexual, or physical mistreatment or neglect by an adult in a role of responsibility toward someone who is under 18 years of age. This research sought to examine the Islamic model to address the challenges of child abuse and its impact on students’ academic performance in senior secondary school in Gombe North to empirically bridge the gap. Four research question were developed. The study’s population from which the samples were collected comprises all the senior secondary Schools that offer Islamic studies in Gombe north senatorial district, while 39 schools were selected through the purposive sampling method out of the 115 public and private senior secondary school. The 360 teachers and 369 students were selected based on Yamane (1967) finite sample formula. The Islamic Studies and Challenges of Child Abuse Questionnaire’’ [ISCCAQ].was the data collection instrument, with a 4-point Likert scale ranging from strongly agreed, agreed, strongly disagreed and disagreed.. SPSS was used to analyze data using both descriptive and inferential statistics, particularly correlation. Islamic Studies Model on the Challenges of Child Abuse were found to be associated to the Students’ Academic Performance in Senior Secondary School in Gombe North Senatorial District in Gombe State with 0.05 level of significance. It is recommended that, educate parents and caregivers about the importance of implementing Islamic teachings in child rearing to minimize child abuse. Encourage the use of Islamic models of discipline that do not resort to physical or emotional abuse.
