Abstract

Flooding has become one of the most recurrent and devastating natural disasters in Nigeria, causing significant social, economic, and environmental impacts. Taraba State, located in the northeastern part of Nigeria, is particularly susceptible to flooding due to its diverse topography and river systems. This research assesses flood vulnerability and risk management in Taraba State using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The study focuses on understanding the spatial distribution of flood-prone areas, analyzing the factors contributing to flood risk, and evaluating current mitigation strategies. By leveraging GIS technology, the research provides critical insights for developing more effective flood management policies and enhancing disaster preparedness.
