This study aimed to investigate the perceptions of students in higher education institutions in Nigeria regarding the challenges and disadvantages posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. A survey methodology was employed, utilizing a validated questionnaire to collect data from a sample of 255 students from universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. One hypothesis was tested using a t-test, and four research questions were addressed using descriptive statistics, including means and standard deviations. The findings revealed that the pandemic affected the academic performance of male and female students differently. Additionally, it highlights the challenges faced by students in adapting to e-learning and its impact on their academic success. Notably, the pandemic also led to positive changes in the Nigerian education system. This study offers several recommendations, particularly emphasizing the need for similar research to be conducted in other geographic regions.
