Abstract

Sustainable urban planning is a crucial aspect of creating resilient and livable cities, and the integration of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and estate management is a key strategy for achieving this goal. This paper explores the potential of GIS-Estate Management integration for sustainable urban planning, with a focus on efficient resource allocation and decision-making. The paper discusses the benefits of using GIS in estate management, like improved data management, enhanced decision-making, better resource allocation, and increased transparency and accountability amongst others and examine the challenges of integrating GIS and estate management, such as data accuracy, privacy concerns, and the need for interoperable systems.  Findings suggest that the integration of GIS and estate management can lead to more efficient and sustainable urban planning, thus a framework for implementing this integrated approach was proposed. This framework includes the use of GIS for spatial analysis, data visualization, and scenario planning, as well as the establishment of clear data management protocols and stakeholder engagement strategies. The paper concludes that the integration of GIS and Estate Management is a critical step towards achieving sustainable urban development, and by extension meeting some of the targets of Goal 11 of the Global Goals ahead of 2030, thus recommend that urban planners and estate managers adopt this approach to ensure the long-term viability of urban areas.
