AN ASSESSMENT OF THE IMPACT OF LEADERSHIP ON WORKERS PERFORMANCE IN KALTUNGO LOCAL GOVERNMENT EDUCATION AUTHORITY

The study assesses the impact of leadership on workers performance in Kaltungo Local Government Education Authority Gombe State from 2016 to 2021. One of the objectives of the study was to examine the influence of leadership on adequacy of teaching. The study used survey research design to generate data from the respondents of the study. Structured close-ended 5 points Likert scale questionnaire was used to gather quantitative data from field survey. The Cronbach’s Alpha reliability test of the questionnaire that was used yielded a coefficient of 0.778 (77.8%) and content validity of the questionnaire was established by an expert (supervisor). The study population was 1952 workers and the sample size of 332 workers was used which was determined by Taro Yamane’s formula for determining sample size. The respondents were selected using stratified random sampling technique to generate data from secretariat unit, primary school unit and GJSS unit of KLGEA. Data analysis was conducted through descriptive technique for the demography and Pearson Chi-square was used to test the hypotheses using SPSS software version 23. The findings revealed that leadership has influence on adequacy of teaching, adequacy of lesson plan and commitment to work. The study also discovered that supervision of teaching, assessment of lesson plan and motivation is not done consistently in KLGEA. The study recommends that supervision of teaching, assessment of lesson plan and motivation should be improved as factors of leadership that enhance adequacy of teaching, adequacy of lesson plan and commitment to work.
